Umbrella prints Competition...

I know I haven't been blogging for a while,
it's because I have had so many little personal projects to finish and put to bed before I can start a fresh and clear my desk.

I decided to enter the fabulous Umbrella prints competition,
it's very simple, you buy one of Umbrella Prints lovely little trimmings packs and then just be creative and make something with them and then upload pics of your work to an online platform.

On Friday 31st May the entrants images will be pinned to a competition board and the one with the most pins will win! There will also be a panel of guest judges who will pick their winner too.

It's a fab chance to experiment and a wonderful creative challenge.
I entered a couple of years ago, the work I did is here,
and I loved every minute of it!

So I bought my lovely little trimming pack and set to work...

working out ideas till late!

And here are the final five pieces I managed to create with my trimmings pack....

1. A moment in time.

This is based on my Lily and Skyla,
they are so opposites, yin and yang, Lil is dark with big chocolate button eyes and Sky is blond with sparkly blue smiley eyes, Lil is fiery and head strong, Sky is a big softy and calm... this results in a lot of clashes, but, there are moments the sisterly bond appears and they connect, and this is an attempt to capture one of them. ( I'm working on this design as a screen print too for Holmfirth Artweek )

2. A gust of wind.

This piece was developed because I wanted to experiment mixing screen printing with fabric collage and sewing, so I bought some artists canvas and decided I liked the backing of it which is an off white colour rather than the coated white front.
I screen printed the rain and grass onto it then added the fabric on top.
I loved mixing the two mediums and plan to experiment some more with this in the future!

3. Sleep tight.

This design is taken from a screen print I did a couple of years ago called Dreamer.
I often got asked to do a 'boy' version of it, so here it is in fabric form which will become a screen print at some point!

4. Little Bird

I had this idea that the trimmimgs could be cut into feathers or flashes of colour on a bird as the pack I'd received was full of bright flouro pinks and corals so I collaged this little bird, which then led to a flock...

5. Pink feathers.

And this is the final piece!
I hope you like them as much as I did doing them!
OK
I'm scooping the kids up tomorrow and taking them on an Edinburgh adventure!  ( I'm sooo excited I love Edinburgh!) I'm not back until the 1st June which is after the deadline so this unfortunately is all I've had time to complete.

Is anyone else entering the Umbrella Trimmings competition?
I'd love to know then when it comes to the pinning bit I can support you!

Fab,
Well I'm off to tak the high road and I'll be in Scotland before Yeee!

Happy holidays, hope the sunshine is showing his face wherever you are x
