Sunflowers...

Sunflowers have always been my favourite flower,
I love their size and brilliance and how they shine out summer days and positivity and seem to me to be natures symbol of happy days.

Everyone close to me knows how much I love them,
when I was having treatment for breast cancer a couple of years ago I received a total of 27 bouquets over the 8 months! which really boosted my spirits, and when I had to go back into hospital for a second op, the nurse said she knew it was me that had come in because of the bunches of sunflowers on the window cill!

All this inspired Sonny's Mother's day card to me this year...

Ah, I treasure it, it's beautiful, down to the little cup of green tea on the table.

So,
I thought it was time I did my own screen print of a sunflower,
and I spent a day experimenting in the print room with sunflower shapes and textures to crate a third piece of work for Holmfirth ArtWeek.

There's a fab quote about sunflowers from the wonderful film 'Calendar Girls',

"I don't think there's anything on this planet that more trumpets life that the sunflower. For me that's because of the reason behind its name. Not because it looks like the sun but because it follows the sun. During the course of the day, the head tracks the journey of the sun across the sky. A satellite dish for sunshine. Wherever light is, no matter how weak, these flowers will find it. And that's such an admirable thing. And such a lesson in life."

I'm listing a few smaller prints in my Etsy & Folksy shops,

larger variations and single stems will be on sale at Holmfirth ArtWeek.

Have a sunny weekend!

  1. Brilliance shining through there again Lisa, particularly apt flowers for this years 'Le Tour' . They are all lovely, I like the blue on top of the dark on the birds :)
